The Departure of Job the Righteous

On this day, Job the Just departed. He was righteous in his generation and a friend in his time, as the Scripture testified about him: "There is none like him on earth, a perfect and upright man, one who fears God and turns away from evil" (Job 1:8). The devil envied him and asked God to allow him to take from him and all his possessions. God permitted this, knowing His Exaltedness that Job’s patience would be an example and model for those who come after him, as the Scripture says: "You have heard of the patience of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord" (James 5:11). In one day, Job lost his sons, daughters, livestock, and all his wealth. Not only that, but the enemy also struck his body with leprosy from head to foot. Through all this, he was thankful to God and never complained nor cursed his Creator. This is all he said: "Let the day perish on which I was born" (Job 3:3), and regarding the loss of his children: "The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord" in all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrongdoing (Job 1:21-22).

May the blessing of his prayers be with us. Amen.

The Departure of Saint Tadros, Disciple of Pachomius, Father of the Brotherhood

On this day, Saint Tadros, disciple of Saint Pachomius, the Father of the Spiritual Brotherhood, departed. This saint became a monk from his youth under Father Pachomius and showed great asceticism, complete struggle, and abundant obedience. For this reason, Saint Pachomius loved him and entrusted him with the preaching to the brethren. When Anba Pachomius departed, Saint Tadros took over the administration of the brotherhood after him. He was a good example in patience and gentleness. When he completed his course and fulfilled his service, he went to the Lord whom he loved. May his prayers be with us. Amen.

The Martyrdom of Saint Philotheos

On this day, Saint Philotheos from the people of Dronka (Asyut Governorate) was martyred. He was greatly tortured and did not deny his faith. Finally, he received the crown of martyrdom in the year 1096 of the martyrs. May his intercession be with us and glory be to our Lord forever. Amen.
