And when he was in distress, he besought Jehovah his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers.

He keepeth back his soul from the pit, And his life from perishing by the sword.

[For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David]. I waited patiently for Jehovah; And he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.

[A Song of Ascents]. Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Jehovah.

Seek ye Jehovah while he may be found; call ye upon him while he is near:

I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself [thus], Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a calf unaccustomed [to the yoke] : turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art Jehovah my God.

And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they shall look unto me whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his first-born.

And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

And he said, Jesus, remember me when thou comest in thy kingdom.

And it shall be, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

But an angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza: the same is desert.

And now send men to Joppa, and fetch one Simon, who is surnamed Peter:

And he went forth to Tarsus to seek for Saul;

I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city, at the feet of Gamaliel, instructed according to the strict manner of the law of our fathers, being zealous for God, even as ye all are this day:
