How long [shall I bear] with this evil congregation, that murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the wicked, Nor standeth in the way of sinners, Nor sitteth in the seat of scoffers:
To give prudence to the simple, To the young man knowledge and discretion:
For that they hated knowledge, And did not choose the fear of Jehovah:
And say, How have I hated instruction, And my heart despised reproof;
And I beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, A young man void of understanding,
Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: As for him that is void of understanding, she saith to him,
A scoffer seeketh wisdom, and [findeth it] not; But knowledge is easy unto him that hath understanding.
Judgments are prepared for scoffers, And stripes for the back of fools.
But go ye and learn what [this] meaneth, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice, for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.
And Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him hither to me.
