but ye have this day^H3117 rejected^H3988 your God,^H430 who himself saveth^H3467 you out of all your calamities^H7451 and your distresses;^H6869 and ye have said^H559 unto him, [Nay], but set^H7760 a king^H4428 over us. Now therefore present^H3320 yourselves before^H6440 Jehovah^H3068 by your tribes,^H7626 and by your thousands.^H505

Now therefore behold the king^H4428 whom ye have chosen,^H977 and whom ye have asked^H7592 for: and, behold, Jehovah^H3068 hath set^H5414 a king^H4428 over you.

For rebellion^H4805 is as the sin^H2403 of witchcraft,^H7081 and stubbornness^H6484 is as idolatry^H8655 and teraphim.^H205 Because thou hast rejected^H3988 the word^H1697 of Jehovah,^H3068 he hath also rejected^H3988 thee from being king.^H4428

And Jehovah^H3068 said^H559 unto Samuel,^H8050 How long wilt thou mourn^H56 for Saul,^H7586 seeing I have rejected^H3988 him from being king^H4427 over Israel?^H3478 fill^H4390 thy horn^H7161 with oil,^H8081 and go:^H3212 I will send^H7971 thee to Jesse^H3448 the Beth-lehemite;^H1022 for I have provided^H7200 me a king^H4428 among his sons.^H1121

So the king^H4428 hearkened^H8085 not unto the people;^H5971 for it was^H5438 a thing brought about of Jehovah,^H3068 that he might establish^H6965 his word,^H1697 which Jehovah^H3068 spake^H1696 by^H3027 Ahijah^H281 the Shilonite^H7888 to Jeroboam^H3379 the son^H1121 of Nebat.^H5028

Go,^H3212 tell^H559 Jeroboam,^H3379 Thus saith^H559 Jehovah,^H3068 the God^H430 of Israel:^H3478 Forasmuch as^H3282 I exalted^H7311 thee from among^H8432 the people,^H5971 and made^H5414 thee prince^H5057 over my people^H5971 Israel,^H3478

For the transgression^H6588 of a land^H776 many^H7227 are the princes^H8269 thereof; But by men^H120 of understanding^H995 [and] knowledge^H3045 the state^H3651 [thereof] shall be prolonged.^H748

[As for] Samaria,^H8111 her king^H4428 is cut off,^H1820 as foam^H7110 upon^H6440 the water.^H4325
