By night in my bed I sought hym whom my soule loueth: yea diligently sought I him, but I found him not.

I haue put of my coate, howe can I do it on agayne? I haue washed my feete, howe shall I fyle them agayne?

For the vision is yet for an appoynted time, but at the last it shall speake, and not lye: though it tary, wayte: for it shall surely come, and shall not stay.

After a long season, the Lorde of those seruauntes commeth, and reckeneth with them.

And he came, and founde them a slepe agayne: for, their eyes were heauy.

But & yf that seruaut say in his heart, my lorde wyll deferre his commyng, and shall begyn to smyte the seruauntes and maydens, and to eate and drynke, and to be dronken,

Then began he to put foorth to the people this parable. A certayne man planted a vineyarde, and let it foorth to husbande men, and went hym selfe into a straunge countrey for a great season.

Wherefore he sayth: Awake thou that sleepest, and stande vp from the dead, and Christe shall geue thee lyght.

For ye haue neede of pacience, that after ye haue done the wyll of God, ye myght receaue the promise.

And say: Where is the promise of his commyng? For sence the fathers dyed, all thynges continue a lyke from the begynnyng of the creation.
