In his pain Manasseh asked the LORD his God for mercy and truly humbled himself before the God of his ancestors.

Pray to me when you are in trouble! I will deliver you, and you will honor me!”

Why do you insist on being battered? Why do you continue to rebel? Your head has a massive wound, your whole heart is sick.

“‘For testing will come, and what will happen when the scepter, which the sword despises, is no more? declares the Sovereign LORD.’

Thus people were scorched by the terrible heat, yet they blasphemed the name of God, who has ruling authority over these plagues, and they would not repent and give him glory.
