David Is Anointed King Over Israel All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron saying,“Look, we are your very flesh and blood!
He won over the hearts of all the men of Judah as though they were one man. Then they sent word to the king saying,“Return, you and all your servants as well.”
Then David said to Abishai,“Now Sheba son of Bicri will cause greater disaster for us than Absalom did! Take your lord’s servants and pursue him. Otherwise he will secure fortified cities for himself and get away from us.”
When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, the people answered the king,“We have no portion in David, no share in the son of Jesse! Return to your homes, O Israel! Now, look after your own dynasty, O David!” So Israel returned to their homes.
A gentle response turns away anger, but a harsh word stirs up wrath.
A relative offended is harder to reach than a strong city, and disputes are like the barred gates of a fortified citadel.
However, if you continually bite and devour one another, beware that you are not consumed by one another.
Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, being jealous of one another.
For human anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness.
But if you have bitter jealousy and selfishness in your hearts, do not boast and tell lies against the truth.
