His people have been unfaithful to him; they have not acted like his children– this is their sin. They are a perverse and deceitful generation.
So the LORD rejected all of Israel’s descendants; he humiliated them and handed them over to robbers, until he had thrown them from his presence.
Early the next morning they marched out to the wilderness of Tekoa. When they were ready to march, Jehoshaphat stood up and said:“Listen to me, you people of Judah and residents of Jerusalem! Trust in the LORD your God and you will be safe! Trust in the message of his prophets and you will win.”
But if God is quiet, who can condemn him? If he hides his face, then who can see him? Yet he is over the individual and the nation alike,
For these are rebellious people– they are lying children, children unwilling to obey the LORD’s law.
I spread out my hands all day long to my rebellious people, who lived in a way that is morally unacceptable, and who did what they desired.
I will scatter them before their enemies like dust blowing in front of a burning east wind. I will turn my back on them and not look favorably on them when disaster strikes them.”
“To what should I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces who call out to one another,
He answered them,“You unbelieving generation! How much longer must I be with you? How much longer must I endure you? Bring him to me.”
I tell you, he will give them justice speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
Now without faith it is impossible to please him, for the one who approaches God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
