The LORD our God made a covenant with us at Horeb.
You must not erect a sacred pillar, a thing the LORD your God detests.
‘Cursed is the one who makes a carved or metal image– something abhorrent to the LORD, the work of the craftsman– and sets it up in a secret place.’ Then all the people will say,‘Amen!’
For after I have brought them to the land I promised to their ancestors– one flowing with milk and honey– and they eat their fill and become fat, then they will turn to other gods and worship them; they will reject me and break my covenant.
If you violate the covenantal laws of the LORD your God which he commanded you to keep, and follow, worship, and bow down to other gods, the LORD will be very angry with you and you will disappear quickly from the good land which he gave to you.”
Remember continually his covenantal decree, the promise he made to a thousand generations–
How long will you vacillate, you who were once like an unfaithful daughter? For I, the LORD, promise to bring about something new on the earth, something as unique as a woman protecting a man!’”
“‘For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will deal with you according to what you have done when you despised your oath by breaking your covenant.
Then he said to them,“Watch out and guard yourself from all types of greed, because one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has an evil, unbelieving heart that forsakes the living God.
