“You shall have no other gods before me.

You must not make gods of silver alongside me, nor make gods of gold for yourselves.

He accepted the gold from them, fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made a molten calf. Then they said,“These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.”

They went to the land of Gilead to the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, and said to them:

Gideon continued,“I would like to make one request. Each of you give me an earring from the plunder you have taken.”(The Midianites had gold earrings because they were Ishmaelites.)

even when they made a cast image of a calf for themselves and said,‘This is your God who brought you up from Egypt,’ or when they committed atrocious blasphemies.

Those who empty out gold from a purse and weigh out silver on the scale hire a metalsmith, who makes it into a god. They then bow down and worship it.
