Back to passage

Moses said to God,“If I go to the Israelites and tell them,‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me,‘What is his name?’– what should I say to them?”

Then Moses said to the LORD,“O my Lord, I am not an eloquent man, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant, for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.”

The Israelite foremen saw that they were in trouble when they were told,“You must not reduce the daily quota of your bricks.”

But Moses said before the LORD,“Since I speak with difficulty, why should Pharaoh listen to me?”

The LORD your God will also cleanse your heart and the hearts of your descendants so that you may love him with all your mind and being and so that you may live.

I answered,“Oh, Sovereign LORD, Really I do not know how to speak well enough for that, for I am too young.”

That is, I will punish the Egyptians, the Judeans, the Edomites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, and all the desert people who cut their hair short at the temples. I will do so because none of the people of those nations are really circumcised in the LORD’s sight. Moreover, none of the people of Israel are circumcised when it comes to their hearts.”
