Pharaoh will not listen to you. I will reach into Egypt and bring out my regiments, my people the Israelites, from the land of Egypt with great acts of judgment.

Pharaoh said,“I will release you so that you may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness. Only you must not go very far. Do pray for me.”

They replied,“If you are going to send the ark of the God of Israel back, don’t send it away empty. Be sure to return it with a guilt offering. Then you will be healed, and you will understand why his hand is not removed from you.”

Then the cows went directly on the road to Beth Shemesh. They went along that route, bellowing more and more; they turned neither to the right nor to the left. The leaders of the Philistines were walking along behind them all the way to the border of Beth Shemesh.

When a sentence is not executed at once against a crime, the human heart is encouraged to do evil.

He did this while the army of the king of Babylon was attacking Jerusalem and the cities of Lachish and Azekah. He was attacking these cities because they were the only fortified cities of Judah which were still holding out.

“But they refused to pay attention, turning away stubbornly and stopping their ears so they could not hear.

As it says,“Oh, that today you would listen as he speaks! Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
