A fugitive came and told Abram the Hebrew. Now Abram was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, the brother of Eshcol and Aner.(All these were allied by treaty with Abram.)

So when the Midianite merchants passed by, Joseph’s brothers pulled him out of the cistern and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. The Ishmaelites then took Joseph to Egypt.

Joseph’s master took him and threw him into the prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined. So he was there in the prison.

“Whoever kidnaps someone and sells him, or is caught still holding him, must surely be put to death.

Look, my father, and see the edge of your robe in my hand! When I cut off the edge of your robe, I didn’t kill you. So realize and understand that I am not planning evil or rebellion. Even though I have not sinned against you, you are waiting in ambush to take my life.

Though I have done nothing wrong, they are anxious to attack. Spring into action and help me! Take notice of me!

My God sent his angel and closed the lions’ mouths so that they have not harmed me, because I was found to be innocent before him. Nor have I done any harm to you, O king.”

Now this happened to fulfill the word that is written in their law,‘They hated me without reason.’

Paul replied,“I am standing before Caesar’s judgment seat, where I should be tried. I have done nothing wrong to the Jews, as you also know very well.

For it is better to suffer for doing good, if God wills it, than for doing evil.
