and said,“‘I solemnly swear by my own name,’ decrees the LORD,‘that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,

God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a human being, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not make it happen?

They swore their allegiance to the LORD, shouting their approval loudly and sounding trumpets and horns.

But the king will rejoice in God; everyone who takes oaths in his name will boast, for the mouths of those who speak lies will be shut up.

and how he made a vow to the LORD, and swore an oath to the Powerful One of Jacob.

Just a handful of archers, the warriors of Kedar, will be left.” Indeed, the LORD God of Israel has spoken.

I have not spoken in secret, in some hidden place. I did not tell Jacob’s descendants,‘Seek me in vain!’ I am the LORD, the one who speaks honestly, who makes reliable announcements.

Whoever pronounces a blessing in the earth will do so in the name of the faithful God; whoever makes an oath in the earth will do so in the name of the faithful God. For past problems will be forgotten; I will no longer think about them.

For I solemnly swear,” says the LORD,“that Bozrah will become a pile of ruins. It will become an object of horror and ridicule, an example to be used in curses. All the towns around it will lie in ruins forever.”

But what was the divine response to him?“I have kept for myself seven thousand people who have not bent the knee to Baal.”

so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow– in heaven and on earth and under the earth–
