For he is the one about whom the prophet Isaiah had spoken:“The voice of one shouting in the wilderness,‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make his paths straight.’”
As it is written in the prophet Isaiah,“Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way,
And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High. For you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
He confessed– he did not deny but confessed–“I am not the Christ!”
So they asked John,“Why then are you baptizing if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
