Martyrdom of Saint Sergius of Al-Turba, his Father, Mother, and Many with Them
On this day, the commemoration of the martyrdom of Saint Sergius of Al-Turba, his father, mother, and many others with them is observed. May their prayers be with us, and to our Lord be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Departure of Pope Timothy III, the Thirty-Second Pope of Alexandria
On this day in the year 528 AD, the holy father Anba Timothy III, the thirty-second Pope of Alexandria, departed. His enthronement on the apostolic throne was in the year 511 AD. This father endured many hardships for preserving the true faith. During his days, Saint Severus, Patriarch of Antioch, came to the Egyptian lands fleeing persecution. The two traveled through the country and monasteries, strengthening the people in the Orthodox belief. Because he did not agree with King Marcian on the laws of the Council of Chalcedon, he was exiled from his throne. On the day of his exile, the faithful resisted the execution of the order, and by the king's command, about two hundred thousand were killed. This father departed in exile along with Saint Severus of Antioch after he had served on the Marcian throne for seventeen years. May his prayer be with us, and to our Lord be glory forever and ever. Amen.
