The Transfer of the Relics of Saint Martianos the Monk
On this day, we commemorate the transfer of the relics of Saint Martianos the Monk, the struggler, from Athens to Antioch. After he led a sinful woman to repentance, he left her in one of the monasteries and went to the island, traveling through many countries. Finally, he came to the city of Athens and stayed there for a few days until his body became ill and he peacefully reposed. Saint Demetrios, Patriarch of Antioch, took care to transfer his body during the reign of the pagan King Valerian. He sent priests to the city of Athens, who carried the body of Saint Martianos to Antioch with great honor and reverence. Then they placed it in a coffin and decreed that it be brought back every year on this same day. May his prayers be with us, and to our Lord be glory forever and ever. Amen.
