The Departure of Pope Peter II of Alexandria
On this day in the year 370 AD, the blessed father, Anba Peter II, the twenty-first Pope of Alexandria, reposed. He succeeded the Patriarch Saint Athanasius the Apostolic, his teacher. He endured many hardships from the followers of Arius, who tried to kill him repeatedly. He fled from them and remained hidden for two years, during which they appointed one of them in his place named Lucius. However, the faithful managed to remove the intruder Lucius and restore Father Peter, who remained on his throne for six years, persecuted but resisting. When his eight years were completed, the Lord took him from the troubles of this world, and he passed on to eternal bliss. May his prayers be with us. Amen.
Commemoration of Saints Basil, Theodorus, and Timothy
On this day, we commemorate the saints Basil, Theodorus, and Timothy, the martyrs in the city of Alexandria. May their prayers be with us, and to our Lord be glory forever and ever. Amen.
