The Martyrdom of Baktir, Dakios, Akakios, Irene the Virgin, and Those with Them from the Fourth Century A.D.

On this day, the saints Baktir, Dakios, Irene the Virgin, and those with them, men, women, and virgins, were martyred. This occurred during the reign of Emperor Constantine the Great and his son, who destroyed many pagan temples and converted them into churches named after the Virgin Mary and the saints. When Julian the Apostate reigned, he strengthened the worship of idols and honored their priests, killing a great number of Christians. Some reported these saints and what they had done to the idols to him. He seized them and tortured them with various torments, and finally beheaded them. They received the crown of martyrdom. May their prayers be with us. And to the Lord be glory forever. Amen.
