Commemoration of the Church of the Virgin Mary in Al-Mahmiyya
On this day of the year 901 A.M., the commemoration of the consecration of the Church of the Virgin Mary, Theotokos, in the town known as Al-Mahmiyya (Masturd), where the overflowing spring of water from the eye used by the Virgin Mary upon her return from the land of Egypt is located. For when Joseph went to Egypt, as the angel said, he reached the beginning of Upper Egypt, and on his return he reached Al-Matariya and from there to Al-Mahmiyya. A church was built in this place in the name of the Virgin Mary. May her intercession be with us. Amen.
Martyrdom of Saint George the New
On this day, the martyrdom of Saint George the New, who was an Ismaili following his father, but he believed in the Lord Jesus Christ and joined the monastic order. They seized him and punished him severely and brought him before the manifest king. He confessed the Lord Jesus Christ, and the king wished to turn him away from his faith with generous gifts, but he refused. So he ordered his beheading, and he received the crown of martyrdom in the year 1103 A.M. (1387 A.D.). May his intercession be with us. And to our Lord be glory forever. Amen.
