Martyrdom of Saint Abahor, Father Pishay

On this day, the saints Abahor, Anba Pishay, and Theodora their mother were martyred. Abahor was a soldier from Antioch who came to Alexandria and confessed the Lord Christ before its governor. The governor ordered that his hands be cut off, that he be tied to the tail of an ox and dragged through the city, then thrown into a pit full of snakes, which did not harm him. Throughout this, he called upon the Lord Christ, who healed and strengthened him. While he was in this state, his mother came and saw him; she rejoiced in his struggle. They informed the governor about her, who summoned and threatened her, but she was not afraid. He ordered hot iron rods to be placed on her sides, and during this she chanted to the Lord and sanctified Him, for she was worthy to suffer for His name until she gave up her spirit and received the crown of martyrdom. Then they placed the saint in a vessel filled with boiling oil and tar; he praised God until he gave up his spirit and received the crown of martyrdom. As for his brother, he was martyred on the first day of the month of Nasie. May their prayers be with us, and to our Lord be glory forever. Amen.

Martyrdom of the Seven Ascetics of Mount Tuna

On this day, the seven holy ascetics from Mount Tuna were martyred. They are Basidi, Kotolus, Ardama, Moses, Aisi, Barkalas, and another monk named Kotolus. The angel of the Lord appeared to the saints Basidi and Kotolus and commanded them to confess the name of the Lord Christ. They rose quickly toward the governor and met the other five saints coming by ship to confess Christ as well. They agreed together to receive the crown of martyrdom and went to the governor, confessing the Lord Christ. He tortured them severely, then tied stones around their necks and imprisoned them. The Lord appeared to them, comforted and strengthened them, and promised them the kingdom. The governor then sent them to Alexandria, where he tortured them harshly by placing them in a cauldron filled with brimstone and pitch, lighting a fire beneath them. Then he took them out and threw them down. The Lord sent His angel and healed them. They came again to the governor and confessed before him. One hundred and thirty people witnessed this and confessed the Lord Christ, receiving the crown of martyrdom. The governor intensified the torture on the saints and finally beheaded them with a sword, and they received the crown of martyrdom. May their intercession be with us. Amen.
