Departure of Aristobulus, One of the Seventy Apostles

On this day, Saint Aristobulus, one of the seventy apostles whom the Lord chose and sent to preach before His Passion, departed. He received with the disciples the gifts of the Comforter Spirit, accompanied and served them, and proclaimed with them the life-giving gospel, bringing many back to the path of salvation. They believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, and he baptized them and taught them the divine commandments. The disciples appointed him bishop over Britain; he went there, preached to its people, taught them, baptized them, and performed many signs. He endured severe insults from Jews and Greeks, was repeatedly expelled, and stoned. When he completed his course, he departed in peace. Paul the Apostle mentioned him in his letter to the Romans (Romans 16:1). May his prayers be with us. Amen. 2 - On this day also: the commemoration of the seven holy martyrs: Alexandros the Egyptian, Agabius of Gaza, Timolaus of Pontus, Dionysius of Tripoli, Romilus and Blisus from villages of Egypt. These were united in Christian love and came to the governor of Caesarea in Palestine, confessing the Lord Jesus Christ before him. They received the crown of martyrdom in the time of Diocletian. Their prayers be with us. To the Lord be glory forever. Amen.
