The Martyrdom of Simeon the Armenian, Bishop of Persia, and 150 Martyrs with Him

On this day, Saint Simeon the Armenian, Bishop of the land of Persia, and one hundred and fifty with him were martyred. This saint lived in the time of Shapur son of Hormizd, king of Persia, who was very cruel and unjust to the Christians and treated them harshly. The saint wrote to him a letter saying that those whom the Lord Christ redeemed with His blood have been freed from the bondage of men and it is not permissible for them to become slaves to those who transgress the law. When the king read this letter, he became very angry, summoned him, bound him with chains, and threw him into prison. There he found some prisoners who worshiped the sun; he taught and admonished them, and they believed in the Lord Christ and confessed this before the governor, so their heads were cut off. Then the saint was brought out of prison with one hundred and fifty people, and all their heads were cut off, and they received the crown of martyrdom.
