Story
He was a freed slave, who by his deceits and cunning was able to work his way into the palace until he became the man second only to the Emperor. He caused much trouble for Saint John Chrysostom because the saint would not flatter him, and he abolished the right of ecclesiastical sanctuary, whereby a person might take refuge by laying hold of the horns of the altar.
