Story
He lived fifty-nine years in a monastery near Alexandria, and his asceticism reached such a degree that he forgot himself entirely. His reverence for the abbot of the monastery prompted him to bow before him whenever he entered his cell, seeking his blessing. This pious practice cost him, one day, a trial: for the abbot aimed, by means of him, to bring about the correction of the new young monks in his monastery, who were making light of those customs honored by the elders.
Mina entered his abbot's cell one time and bowed before him as was his custom, saying, "Bless me, my father." The abbot took no notice of him and left him in his bowed posture until the time of prayer arrived, and only then did he grant him the blessing, whereupon Mina stood upright. One of the brethren, who was then a young man, said to him, "You have wasted your precious time in vain, for you accomplished nothing during these hours." The ascetic answered him, "Not so, I did not waste it, for I found before me opportunity enough to recite all the Psalms."
God was pleased to honor this devout ascetic after his repose: for during the prayers of his funeral the church was filled with the fragrance of sweet perfume, and this sign was a testimony to the virtues with which this ascetic was adorned.
