and I said,^H559 O my God,^H430 I am ashamed^H954 and blush^H3637 to lift up^H7311 my face^H6440 to you, my God;^H430 for our iniquities^H5771 are increased^H7235 over^H4605 our head,^H7218 and our guiltiness^H819 is grown up^H1431 unto the heavens.^H8064

Thus saith^H559 Jehovah,^H3068 Where is the bill^H5612 of your mother's^H517 divorcement,^H3748 wherewith I have put her away?^H7971 or which of my creditors^H5383 is it to whom I have sold^H4376 you? Behold, for your iniquities^H5771 were ye sold,^H4376 and for your transgressions^H6588 was your mother^H517 put away.^H7971

For of old time^H5769 I have broken^H7665 thy yoke,^H5923 and burst^H5423 thy bonds;^H4147 and thou saidst,^H559 I will not serve;^H5674 for upon every high^H1364 hill^H1389 and under every green^H7488 tree^H6086 thou didst bow thyself,^H6808 playing the harlot.^H2181

They say,^H559 If a man^H376 put away^H7971 his wife,^H802 and she go^H1980 from him, and become another^H312 man's,^H376 will he return unto her again?^H7725 will not that land^H776 be greatly^H2610 polluted?^H2610 But thou hast played the harlot^H2181 with many^H7227 lovers;^H7453 yet return again^H7725 to me, saith^H5002 Jehovah.^H3068

For according to the number^H4557 of thy cities^H5892 are thy gods,^H430 O Judah;^H3063 and according to the number^H4557 of the streets^H2351 of Jerusalem^H3389 have ye set up^H7760 altars^H4196 to the shameful thing,^H1322 even altars^H4196 to burn incense^H6999 unto Baal.^H1168

But we will certainly^H6213 perform^H6213 every word^H1697 that is gone forth^H3318 out of our mouth,^H6310 to burn incense^H6999 unto the queen^H4446 of heaven,^H8064 and to pour out^H5258 drink-offerings^H5262 unto her, as we have done,^H6213 we and our fathers,^H1 our kings^H4428 and our princes,^H8269 in the cities^H5892 of Judah,^H3063 and in the streets^H2351 of Jerusalem;^H3389 for then had we plenty^H7646 of victuals,^H3899 and were well,^H2896 and saw^H7200 no evil.^H7451

But thou didst trust^H982 in thy beauty,^H3308 and playedst the harlot^H2181 because of thy renown,^H8034 and pouredst out^H8210 thy whoredoms^H8457 on every one that passed by;^H5674 his it was.

Wherefore, O harlot,^H2181 hear^H8085 the word^H1697 of Jehovah:^H3068

And Oholah^H170 played the harlot^H2181 when she was mine;^H8478 and she doted^H5689 on her lovers,^H157 on the Assyrians^H804 [her] neighbors,^H7138

And furthermore^H637 ye have sent^H7971 for men^H582 that come^H935 from far,^H4801 unto whom a messenger^H4397 was sent,^H7971 and, lo, they came;^H935 for whom thou didst wash^H7364 thyself, paint^H3583 thine eyes,^H5869 and deck^H5710 thyself with ornaments,^H5716

Contend^H7378 with your mother,^H517 contend;^H7378 for she is not my wife,^H802 neither am I her husband;^H376 and let her put away^H5493 her whoredoms^H2183 from her face,^H6440 and her adulteries^H5005 from between her breasts;^H7699

And I will lay waste^H8074 her vines^H1612 and her fig-trees,^H8384 whereof she hath said,^H559 These are my hire^H866 that my lovers^H157 have given^H5414 me; and I will make^H7760 them a forest,^H3293 and the beasts^H2416 of the field^H7704 shall eat^H398 them.

And thou shalt stumble^H3782 in the day,^H3117 and the prophet^H5030 also shall stumble^H3782 with thee in the night;^H3915 and I will destroy^H1820 thy mother.^H517

For they are gone up^H5927 to Assyria,^H804 [like] a wild ass^H6501 alone^H909 by himself: Ephraim^H669 hath hired^H8566 lovers.^H158

In that day^H3117 shall the fair^H3303 virgins^H1330 and the young men^H970 faint^H5968 for thirst.^H6772
