Then sayde God vnto Salomon: For so moch as thou art so mynded, and hast not desyred riches ner good, ner honor, ner the soules of thine enemies, ner longe life, but hast requyred wy?dome and knowlege, to iudge my people, ouer whom I haue made the kynge,

The lawe of thy mouth is dearer vnto me, the thousandes of golde & syluer.

I am as glad of thy worde, as one yt fyndeth greate spoyles.

Receaue my doctryne therfore and not syluer, & knowlege more then fyne golde.

To haue wy?dome in possession is better then golde, and to get vnderstondynge, is more worth then syluer.

What helpeth it a man though he wanne the whole worlde, and yet suffred harme in his soule? Or what can a man geue, to redeme his soule withall?

I counsell the to bye of me golde tryed in the fyre, that thou mayste be riche: and whyte rayment, that thou mayste be clothed, that thy fylthy nakednes do not apere: anoynt thine eyes with eye salue, yt thou mayste se.
