¶ If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and [that], when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:

Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.

Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.

¶ The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.

¶ Wherefore [is there] a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing [he hath] no heart [to it]?

¶ Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

In thy filthiness [is] lewdness: because I have purged thee, and thou wast not purged, thou shalt not be purged from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my fury to rest upon thee.

Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble [you], and thereby many be defiled;

‹As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.›
