He won over the hearts of all the men of Judah as though they were one man. Then they sent word to the king saying,“Return, you and all your servants as well.”

Joab said to Amasa,“How are you, my brother?” With his right hand Joab took hold of Amasa’s beard as if to greet him with a kiss.

May the LORD punish him for the blood he shed; behind my father David’s back he struck down and murdered with the sword two men who were more innocent and morally upright than he– Abner son of Ner, commander of Israel’s army, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of Judah’s army.

Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. Zeruiah’s three sons were Abshai, Joab, and Asahel.

Some men from Manasseh joined David when he went with the Philistines to fight against Saul.(But in the end they did not help the Philistines because, after taking counsel, the Philistine lords sent David away, saying:“It would be disastrous for us if he deserts to his master Saul.”)
