When God made me wander from my father’s house, I told her,‘This is what you can do to show your loyalty to me: Every place we go, say about me,“He is my brother.”’”

He called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the contending of the Israelites and because of their testing the LORD, saying,“Is the LORD among us or not?”

False Prophets in the Family Suppose your own full brother, your son, your daughter, your beloved wife, or your closest friend should seduce you secretly and encourage you to go and serve other gods that neither you nor your ancestors have previously known,

When you see a thief, you join him; you associate with men who are unfaithful to their wives.

How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and insulted him in the wastelands!

He says,“Do not be stubborn like they were at Meribah, like they were that day at Massah in the wilderness,

The LORD abhors every arrogant person; rest assured that they will not go unpunished.

Jesus said to him,“Once again it is written:‘You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.’”

But Peter said,“Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back for yourself part of the proceeds from the sale of the land?

So now why are you putting God to the test by placing on the neck of the disciples a yoke that neither our ancestors nor we have been able to bear?

Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world may be held accountable to God.

And let us not put Christ to the test, as some of them did, and were destroyed by snakes.
