Their territory extended from Aroer at the edge of the Arnon valley as far as Mount Siyon– that is, Hermon–

King Sihon of the Amorites who lived in Heshbon and ruled from Aroer(on the edge of the Arnon Valley)– including the city in the middle of the valley and half of Gilead– all the way to the Jabbok Valley bordering Ammonite territory.

Israel has been living in Heshbon and its nearby towns, in Aroer and its nearby towns, and in all the cities along the Arnon for three hundred years! Why did you not reclaim them during that time?

The cities of Aroer are abandoned. They will be used for herds, which will lie down there in peace.

You who live in Aroer, stand by the road and watch. Question the man who is fleeing and the woman who is escaping. Ask them,‘What has happened?’
