God’s Covenant with Humankind through Noah Then God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them,“Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.

And I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone is able to count the dust of the earth, then your descendants also can be counted.

The Sign of the Covenant When Abram was 99 years old, the LORD appeared to him and said,“I am the Sovereign God. Walk before me and be blameless.

I will make you extremely fruitful. I will make nations of you, and kings will descend from you.

Is anything impossible for the LORD? I will return to you when the season comes round again and Sarah will have a son.”

I will indeed bless you, and I will greatly multiply your descendants so that they will be as countless as the stars in the sky or the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the strongholds of their enemies.

Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west, east, north, and south. And so all the families of the earth may receive blessings through you and through your descendants.

May the Sovereign God grant you mercy before the man so that he may release your other brother and Benjamin! As for me, if I lose my children I lose them.”

Jacob said to Joseph,“The Sovereign God appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me.

God heard their groaning, God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob,

¶ Organizing the Census of the Israelites Now the LORD spoke to Moses in the tent of meeting in the desert of Sinai on the first day of the second month of the second year after the Israelites departed from the land of Egypt. He said:

the promise he made to Abraham, the promise he made by oath to Isaac!

and I will be a father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters,” says the All-Powerful Lord.
