By the sweat of your brow you will eat food until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you will return.”

Jacob said,“Swear to me that you will do so.” So Joseph gave him his word. Then Israel bowed down at the head of his bed.

Then he instructed them,“I am about to go to my people. Bury me with my fathers in the cave in the field of Ephron the Hittite.

So I must die here in this land; I will not cross the Jordan. But you are going over and will possess that good land.

He was buried in the tomb he had carved out in the City of David. They laid him to rest on a platform covered with spices and assorted mixtures of ointments. They made a huge bonfire to honor him.

They have made their blood flow like water all around Jerusalem, and there is no one to bury them.

and they are afraid of heights and the dangers in the street; the almond blossoms grow white, and the grasshopper drags itself along, and the caper berry shrivels up– because man goes to his eternal home, and the mourners go about in the streets–

‘What right do you have to be here? What relatives do you have buried here? Why do you chisel out a tomb for yourself here? He chisels out his burial site in an elevated place, he carves out his tomb on a cliff.

and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut in the rock. Then he rolled a great stone across the entrance of the tomb and went away.
