So Moses made a bronze snake and put it on a pole, so that if a snake had bitten someone, when he looked at the bronze snake he lived.

But I am a worm, not a man; people insult me and despise me.

A psalm of David. Here is the LORD’s proclamation to my lord:“Sit down at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool!”

I will wait patiently for the LORD, who has rejected the family of Jacob; I will wait for him.

Turn to me so you can be delivered, all you who live in the earth’s remote regions! For I am God, and I have no peer.

I offered my back to those who attacked, my jaws to those who tore out my beard; I did not hide my face from insults and spitting.

Though the LORD desired to crush him and make him ill, once restitution is made, he will see descendants and enjoy long life, and the LORD’s purpose will be accomplished through him.

“I will pour out on the kingship of David and the population of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication so that they will look to me, the one they have pierced. They will lament for him as one laments for an only son, and there will be a bitter cry for him like the bitter cry for a firstborn.

“Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the experts in the law. They will condemn him to death,

Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists. And some slapped him,

He said to them,“Elijah does indeed come first, and restores all things. And why is it written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be despised?

He said,“Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Take this cup away from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

The apostles said to the Lord,“Increase our faith!”

The people also stood there watching, but the leaders ridiculed him, saying,“He saved others. Let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, his chosen one!”

On the next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said,“Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

Your father Abraham was overjoyed to see my day, and he saw it and was glad.”

“Now my soul is greatly distressed. And what should I say?‘Father, deliver me from this hour’? No, but for this very reason I have come to this hour.

Because Jesus knew that the Father had handed all things over to him, and that he had come from God and was going back to God,

Jesus Prays for the Father to Glorify Him When Jesus had finished saying these things, he looked upward to heaven and said,“Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, so that your Son may glorify you–

Therefore let all the house of Israel know beyond a doubt that God has made this Jesus whom you crucified both Lord and Christ.”

So they left the council rejoicing because they had been considered worthy to suffer dishonor for the sake of the name.

and to reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by which the hostility has been killed.

For I am sure of this very thing, that the one who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

But our citizenship is in heaven– and we also eagerly await a savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,

as we wait for the happy fulfillment of our hope in the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

But to which of the angels has he ever said,“Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”?

And by being perfected in this way, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him,

The High Priest of a Better Covenant Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We have such a high priest, one who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,

So when he came into the world, he said,“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me.

At times you were publicly exposed to abuse and afflictions, and at other times you came to share with others who were treated in that way.

Think of him who endured such opposition against himself by sinners, so that you may not grow weary in your souls and give up.

They probed into what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he testified beforehand about the sufferings appointed for Christ and his subsequent glory.

Because Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, to bring you to God, by being put to death in the flesh but by being made alive in the spirit.

If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory, who is the Spirit of God, rests on you.

maintain yourselves in the love of God, while anticipating the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that brings eternal life.

saying:“Write in a book what you see and send it to the seven churches– to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.”
