When Israel joined themselves to Baal-peor, the anger of the LORD flared up against Israel.

They even built for themselves high places, sacred pillars, and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree.

He tore down the quarters of the male cultic prostitutes in the LORD’s temple, where women were weaving shrines for Asherah.

Why do you insist on being battered? Why do you continue to rebel? Your head has a massive wound, your whole heart is sick.

They do not comprehend or understand, for their eyes are blind and cannot see; their minds do not discern.

Many will be purified, made clean, and refined, but the wicked will go on being wicked. None of the wicked will understand, though the wise will understand.

You stumble day and night, and the false prophets stumble with you; You have destroyed your own people!

Concluding Exhortation Who is wise? Let him discern these things! Who is discerning? Let him understand them! For the ways of the LORD are right; the godly walk in them,but in them the rebellious stumble.

there is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God.

They are darkened in their understanding, being alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardness of their hearts.
