The LORD’s message came to him in the thirteenth year that Josiah son of Amon ruled over Judah.

¶ Jonah Tries to Run from the Lord The LORD’s message came to Jonah son of Amittai,

¶ Introduction This is the LORD’s message that came to Zephaniah son of Cushi, son of Gedaliah, son of Amariah, son of Hezekiah during the time of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah:

While they were going away, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John:“What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

the voice of one shouting in the wilderness,‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make his paths straight.’”

And the child kept growing and becoming strong in spirit, and he was in the wilderness until the day he was revealed to Israel.

John said,“I am the voice of one shouting in the wilderness,‘Make straight the way for the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”

They brought him first to Annas, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.

Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and others who were members of the high priest’s family.
