“Son of man, of all the woody branches among the trees of the forest, what happens to the wood of the vine?

He called out loudly as follows:‘Chop down the tree and lop off its branches! Strip off its foliage and scatter its fruit! Let the animals flee from under it and the birds from its branches!

Even now the ax is laid at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

So he said to the worker who tended the vineyard,‘For three years now, I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and each time I inspect it I find none. Cut it down! Why should it continue to deplete the soil?’

For this is certain: The days are coming when they will say,‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore children, and the breasts that never nursed!’
