The man said to him,“Teacher, I have wholeheartedly obeyed all these laws since my youth.”

but he answered his father,‘Look! These many years I have worked like a slave for you, and I never disobeyed your commands. Yet you never gave me even a goat so that I could celebrate with my friends!

The man replied,“I have wholeheartedly obeyed all these laws since my youth.”

Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world may be held accountable to God.

Thus the law had become our guardian until Christ, so that we could be declared righteous by faith.
