The Temptation and the Fall Now the serpent was more shrewd than any of the wild animals that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman,“Is it really true that God said,‘You must not eat from any tree of the orchard’?”

The Israelites said to them,“If only we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat, when we ate bread to the full, for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger!”

Then Satan answered the LORD,“Is it for nothing that Job fears God?

Yet they continued to sin against him, and rebelled against the Most High in the desert.

Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying,“Truly you are the Son of God.”

Then the devil brought him to Jerusalem, had him stand on the highest point of the temple, and said to him,“If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here,

and immediately he began to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, saying,“This man is the Son of God.”

And see to it that no one becomes an immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal.

So that huge dragon– the ancient serpent, the one called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world– was thrown down to the earth, and his angels along with him.
