For the music director; a psalm of David. How long, LORD, will you continue to ignore me? How long will you pay no attention to me?

When I refused to confess my sin, my whole body wasted away, while I groaned in pain all day long.

I am oppressed and suffering! O God, deliver and protect me!

Those who shed tears as they plant will shout for joy when they reap the harvest.

he will swallow up death permanently. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from every face, and remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. Indeed, the LORD has announced it!

They will come back shedding tears of contrition. I will bring them back praying prayers of repentance. I will lead them besides streams of water, along smooth paths where they will never stumble. I will do this because I am Israel’s father; Ephraim is my firstborn son.’”

Their survivors will escape to the mountains and become like doves of the valleys; all of them will moan– each one for his iniquity.

“I will pour out on the kingship of David and the population of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication so that they will look to me, the one they have pierced. They will lament for him as one laments for an only son, and there will be a bitter cry for him like the bitter cry for a firstborn.

“Woe to you who are well satisfied with food now, for you will be hungry.“Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.

He said to the woman,“Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

I tell you the solemn truth, you will weep and wail, but the world will rejoice; you will be sad, but your sadness will turn into joy.

Now I rejoice, not because you were made sad, but because you were made sad to the point of repentance. For you were made sad as God intended, so that you were not harmed in any way by us.

So I said to him,“My lord, you know the answer.” Then he said to me,“These are the ones who have come out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb!
