Jacob and all his descendants took their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and they went to Egypt.

So they put foremen over the Israelites to oppress them with hard labor. As a result they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh.

Then Pharaoh commanded all his people,“All sons that are born you must throw into the river, but all daughters you may let live.”

Now the length of time the Israelites lived in Egypt was 430 years.

Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of the land that flows with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness? Now do you want to make yourself a prince over us?

On the seventh day the child died. But the servants of David were afraid to inform him that the child had died, for they said,“While the child was still alive he would not listen to us when we spoke to him. How can we tell him that the child is dead? He will do himself harm!”

This was the one who exploited our people and was cruel to our ancestors, forcing them to abandon their infants so they would die.
