¶ Introduction to the Book The Proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:

Whoever brings a fool into the world does so to his grief, and the father of a fool has no joy.

A foolish child is the ruin of his father, and a contentious wife is like a constant dripping.

The father of a righteous person will rejoice greatly; whoever fathers a wise child will have joy in him.

Proverbs of Solomon Collected by Hezekiah These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men of King Hezekiah of Judah copied:

A rod and reproof impart wisdom, but a child who is unrestrained brings shame to his mother.

Concluding Epilogue: Qoheleth’s Advice is Wise Not only was the Teacher wise, but he also taught knowledge to the people; he carefully evaluated and arranged many proverbs.
