The Nativity of the Holy Virgin, Mother of God
On this day, we celebrate the birth of the pure Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, through whom salvation came to the human race. This Virgin was born in the city of Nazareth where her parents resided. Both of them were sorrowful in heart because they could not offer a sacrifice to God as they had no children. When the fullness of time came, according to the divine plan, the angel of the Lord was sent and he announced to the elder Joachim, her father, while he was standing on the mountain praying, saying: "The Lord will give you offspring from whom the salvation of the world will come." He descended from the mountain at that time, assured and believing what the angel had told him, and informed his wife Anna of what he had seen and heard. She rejoiced, thanked God, and vowed that the one she would bear would serve God in His house all the days of his life. After that, she conceived and gave birth to this saint, naming her Mary, who became the Queen of the women of the world. Through her, we have received grace; may her intercession be with us and glory be to our Lord forever. Amen.
