On this day in the year 403 A.D., the body of Saint Epiphanius (his life was mentioned under the seventeenth day of the month of Pashons) arrived at the island of Cyprus. When the saint was returning from Constantinople by ship, on the twenty-eighth day of the month, the priests and people came out to meet the ship with crosses, gospels, candles, and incense. They carried the pure body while chanting until they placed it in the church. When the priests began to dig a grave for him in the church, two deacons appeared who the saint had excommunicated for their bad conduct. The body remained in the middle of the church for four days without changing its appearance or emitting any odor; it was as if he were asleep. Then a holy deacon stood up and approached the body, saying: "I know your rank before God and that you can repel the evil adversaries." He took an axe in his hand and struck the ground, causing the two opposing deacons to fall on their faces unconscious. They were carried to their homes and died on the third day. As for the saint's body, the priests anointed it with precious spices, wrapped it in costly linens, and placed it in a marble coffin inside the church. Many signs appeared from it.
