ASVs · chapter 14

F or JehovahH3068 will have compassionH7355 on Jacob,H3290 and will yet chooseH977 Israel,H3478 and setH3240 them in their own land:H127 and the sojournerH1616 shall joinH3867 himself with them, and they shall cleaveH5596 to the houseH1004 of Jacob.H3290

And the peoplesH5971 shall takeH3947 them, and bringH935 them to their place;H4725 and the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 shall possessH5157 them in the landH127 of JehovahH3068 for servantsH5650 and for handmaids:H8198 and they shall take them captiveH7617 whose captivesH7617 they were; and they shall ruleH7287 over their oppressors.H5065

And it shall come to pass in the dayH3117 that JehovahH3068 shall give thee restH5117 from thy sorrow,H6090 and from thy trouble,H6090 and from the hardH7186 serviceH5656 wherein thou wast made to serve,H5647

that thou shalt take upH5375 this parableH4912 against the kingH4428 of Babylon,H894 and say,H559 How hath the oppressorH5065 ceased!H7673 the golden cityH4062 ceased!H7673

JehovahH3068 hath brokenH7665 the staffH4294 of the wicked,H7563 the sceptreH7626 of the rulers;H4910

that smoteH5221 the peoplesH5971 in wrathH5678 with a continualH1115 stroke,H4347 that ruledH7287 the nationsH1471 in anger,H639 with a persecutionH4783 that noneH1097 restrained.H2820

The whole earthH776 is at rest,H5117 [and] is quiet:H8252 they break forthH6476 into singing.H7440

Yea, the fir-treesH1265 rejoiceH8055 at thee, [and] the cedarsH730 of Lebanon,H3844 [saying], Since thou art laid low,H7901 no hewerH3772 is come upH5927 against us.

SheolH7585 from beneath is movedH7264 for thee to meetH7125 thee at thy coming;H935 it stirreth upH5782 the deadH7496 for thee, even all the chief onesH6260 of the earth;H776 it hath raised upH6965 from their thronesH3678 all the kingsH4428 of the nations.H1471

All they shall answerH6030 and sayH559 unto thee, Art thou also become weakH2470 as we? art thou become likeH4911 unto us?

Thy pompH1347 is brought downH3381 to Sheol,H7585 [and] the noiseH1998 of thy viols:H5035 the wormH7415 is spreadH3331 under thee, and wormsH8438 coverH4374 thee.

How art thou fallenH5307 from heaven,H8064 O day-star,H1966 sonH1121 of the morning!H7837 how art thou cut downH1438 to the ground,H776 that didst lay lowH2522 the nations!H1471

And thou saidstH559 in thy heart,H3824 I will ascendH5927 into heaven,H8064 I will exaltH7311 my throneH3678 aboveH4605 the starsH3556 of God;H410 and I will sitH3427 upon the mountH2022 of congregation,H4150 in the uttermost partsH3411 of the north;H6828

I will ascendH5927 above the heightsH1116 of the clouds;H5645 I will make myself likeH1819 the Most High.H5945

Yet thou shalt be brought downH3381 to Sheol,H7585 to the uttermost partsH3411 of the pit.H953

They that seeH7200 thee shall gazeH7688 at thee, they shall considerH995 thee, [saying], Is this the manH376 that made the earthH776 to tremble,H7264 that did shakeH7493 kingdoms;H4467

that madeH7760 the worldH8398 as a wilderness,H4057 and overthrewH2040 the citiesH5892 thereof; that let not looseH6605 his prisonersH615 to their home?H1004

All the kingsH4428 of the nations,H1471 all of them, sleepH7901 in glory,H3519 every oneH376 in his own house.H1004

But thou art cast forthH7993 away from thy sepulchreH6913 like an abominableH8581 branch,H5342 clothedH3830 with the slain,H2026 that are thrust throughH2944 with the sword,H2719 that go downH3381 to the stonesH68 of the pit;H953 as a dead bodyH6297 trodden under foot.H947

Thou shalt not be joinedH3161 with them in burial,H6900 because thou hast destroyedH7843 thy land,H776 thou hast slainH2026 thy people;H5971 the seedH2233 of evil-doersH7489 shall not be namedH7121 for ever.H5769

PrepareH3559 ye slaughterH4293 for his childrenH1121 for the iniquityH5771 of their fathers,H1 that they riseH6965 notH1077 up, and possessH3423 the earth,H776 and fillH4390 the faceH6440 of the worldH8398 with cities.H6145

And I will rise upH6965 against them, saithH5002 JehovahH3068 of hosts,H6635 and cut offH3772 from BabylonH894 nameH8034 and remnant,H7605 and sonH5209 and son's son,H5220 saithH5002 Jehovah.H3068

I will also makeH7760 it a possessionH4180 for the porcupine,H7090 and poolsH98 of water:H4325 and I will sweepH2894 it with the besomH4292 of destruction,H8045 saithH5002 JehovahH3068 of hosts.H6635

JehovahH3068 of hostsH6635 hath sworn,H7650 saying,H559 Surely, as I have thought,H1819 so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed,H3289 so shall it stand:H6965

that I will breakH7665 the AssyrianH804 in my land,H776 and upon my mountainsH2022 tread him under foot:H947 then shall his yokeH5923 departH5493 from off them, and his burdenH5448 departH5493 from off their shoulder.H7926

This is the purposeH6098 that is purposedH3289 upon the whole earth;H776 and this is the handH3027 that is stretched outH5186 upon all the nations.H1471

For JehovahH3068 of hostsH6635 hath purposed,H3289 and who shall annulH6565 it? and his handH3027 is stretched out,H5186 and who shall turn it back?H7725

In the yearH8141 that kingH4428 AhazH271 diedH4194 was this burden.H4853

RejoiceH8055 not, O Philistia,H6429 all of thee, because the rodH7626 that smoteH5221 thee is broken;H7665 for out of the serpent'sH5175 rootH8328 shall come forthH3318 an adder,H6848 and his fruitH6529 shall be a fieryH8314 flyingH5774 serpent.H8314

And the first-bornH1060 of the poorH1800 shall feed,H7462 and the needyH34 shall lie downH7257 in safety;H983 and I will killH4191 thy rootH8328 with famine,H7458 and thy remnantH7611 shall be slain.H2026

Howl,H3213 O gate;H8179 cry,H2199 O city;H5892 thou art meltedH4127 away, O Philistia,H6429 all of thee; for there comethH935 a smokeH6227 out of the north,H6828 and there is no stragglerH909 in his ranks.H4151

What then shall one answerH6030 the messengersH4397 of the nation?H1471 That JehovahH3068 hath foundedH3245 Zion,H6726 and in her shall the afflictedH6041 of his peopleH5971 take refuge.H2620
