Then Absalom and all the men of Israel sayde, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better, then the counsell of Ahithophel: for the Lorde had determined to destroy the good counsell of Ahithophel, that the Lorde might bring euill vpon Absalom.
Yet he is in one minde, & who can turne him? yea, he doeth what his minde desireth.
The Lorde breaketh the counsell of the heathen, and bringeth to nought the deuices of the people.
A good man getteth fauour of the Lorde: but the man of wicked immaginations will hee condemne.
The heart of man purposeth his way: but the Lord doeth direct his steppes.
There is no wisedome, neither vnderstanding, nor counsell against the Lord.
Let vs goe vp against Iudah, and let vs waken them vp, and make a breach therein for vs, and set a King in the mids thereof, euen the sonne of Tabeal.
This is the counsell that is consulted vpon the whole worlde, and this is the hande stretched out ouer all the nations,
Neither shall that be done that commeth into your minde: for ye say, We wil be as the heathen, and as the families of the countreys, and serue wood, and stone.
He shall enter into the quiet and plentifull prouince, and he shall doe that which his fathers haue not done, nor his fathers fathers: he shal deuide among them the pray and the spoyle, and the substance, yea, and he shall forecast his deuises against the strong holdes, euen for a time.
And said, Syr, we remember that that deceiuer saide, while he was yet aliue, Within three dayes I will rise.
And nowe I say vnto you, Refraine your selues from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsell, or this worke be of men, it will come to nought:
So God, willing more aboundantly to shew vnto the heires of promes the stablenes of his counsell, bound himselfe by an othe,
For there are certaine men crept in, which were before of olde ordeined to this condemnation: vngodly men they are which turne the grace of our God into wantonnesse, and denie God the onely Lord, and our Lord Iesus Christ.
