Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I [am] the LORD your God.
Do ye thus requite the LORD, O foolish people and unwise? [is] not he thy father [that] hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?
[There is] a generation [that] curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
¶ Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the LORD hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me.
And [there is] none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.
Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?
For both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the LORD.
Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father, which he commanded them; but this people hath not hearkened unto me:
¶ My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: [in] all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that [were] sin.
Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet [is] she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.
¶ Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept [them]. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?
¶ ‹After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.›
¶ ‹Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.›
‹And honour not his father or his mother,› [he shall be free]. ‹Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.›
‹For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:›
‹Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.›
But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
‹Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for› [so] ‹I am.›
¶ Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and [his] doctrine be not blasphemed.
And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning [here] in fear:
