A wise [man] will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

Give [instruction] to a wise [man], and he will be yet wiser: teach a just [man], and he will increase in learning.

¶ Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised [is] wisdom.

¶ A wise [man] feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

¶ There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof [are] the ways of death.

¶ Every way of a man [is] right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.

¶ The sluggard [is] wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

[There is] a generation [that are] pure in their own eyes, and [yet] is not washed from their filthiness.

Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare [it] unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, wilt thou not hearken unto me?

For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
