And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.

And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD'S anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he [is] the anointed of the LORD.

For the battle was there scattered over the face of all the country: and the wood devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.

¶ So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither [have we] inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.

¶ Let not thine heart envy sinners: but [be thou] in the fear of the LORD all the day long.

Be not hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him.

¶ Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

¶ Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
