Jonathan made a covenant with David, for he loved him as much as he did his own life.

Don’t ever cut off your loyalty to my family, not even when the LORD has cut off every one of David’s enemies from the face of the earth

Jonathan said to David,“Go in peace, for the two of us have sworn together in the name of the LORD saying,‘The LORD will be between me and you and between my descendants and your descendants forever.’”

David promised Saul this on oath. Then Saul went to his house, and David and his men went up to the stronghold.

David Finds Mephibosheth Then David asked,“Is anyone still left from the family of Saul, so that I may extend kindness to him for the sake of Jonathan?”

David said to him,“Don’t be afraid, because I will certainly extend kindness to you for the sake of Jonathan your father. I will give back to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will be a regular guest at my table.”

The king said to Ziba,“Everything that was Mephibosheth’s now belongs to you.” Ziba replied,“I bow before you. May I find favor in your sight, my lord the king.”
